HOW TO OBTAIN A LIBRARY CARD
Library cards may be obtained at the main desk on the first floor. You must show proof of current address to receive a library card. Any child under 14 years of age (or not yet in high school) must have his/her application signed by a parent or guardian.
Patrons who have had their card for six months or longer and have a history of returning their items items by the due date and undamaged, may check out fifteen items on their card. Patrons who have a history of returning items at least 3 months overdue are considered delinquent patrons and may only check out one item at a time.
NOTE: In order to use the library, persons living outside the Orleans Town and Township area must: purchase a non-resident card at the current year’s fee; OR have a Public Library Access Card (PLAC); OR be in good standing at their home library and receive reciprocal privileges.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF LIBRARY CARD OWNERSHIP
You must have your library card with you to check out materials. You should inform us if you have a change of name or address. You are responsible for the care and return of all items checked out on your card. You are responsible for notifying the library if your card is lost or stolen. If not reported, you are responsible for materials checked out on your card. Do not loan your card…….you are responsible for all items checked out on your card. There is a $2.00 charge to replace a lost or damaged library card.
LOAN PERIODS FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS
Books, audio cassettes, and music CD’s are loaned for 14 days. Periodicals are loaned for 3 days. Videos are loaned for 3 days.
FINES AND FEES
Please return materials on time so they will be available for others to use; a fine of 5 cents per item, per day is charged when books and periodicals are returned late; a fine of $1.00 per item, per day is charged on all videos returned late. If you lose your date due slip, please call us to ask! You will be notified of overdue items by phone, e-mail, or mail; you may renew items one time by phone; additional books may not be checked out if you owe $2.00 or more in fines or have books that are overdue longer than one month; a fee of 10 cents per copy is charged for each page queued to print in black and white; a fee of $1.00 per page is charged for facsimile service; fees for these services must be paid at the time the service is given.
LOST AND DAMAGED MATERIALS
You will be charged for items checked out on your card that are lost or damaged. These fees will be used to replace the lost/damaged materials.
RESERVES
Patrons may reserve books and videos by asking at the desk or by telephone. Items will be held for three days after the patron has been notified that the reserve item is in. If not picked up within three days, the item will be placed on the shelves or given to the next person on the waiting list.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
The Library offers Interlibrary Loan services through resource sharing with cooperating libraries. You may borrow books and periodical articles from other libraries through the Orleans Public Library.
In order to request an Interlibrary Loan, the desired item must NOT be owned by the Orleans Public Library. Interlibrary Loan is not available to reciprocal borrowers who will need to request Interlibrary Loan items from their "home" library. In order to receive materials from Interlibrary Loan you must have a valid Orleans Public Library card or a PLAC card.
The following items may not be requested from another library: paperback novels costing less than $5.00; books costing more than $50.00; rare books and materials; books less than 6 months old; reference books; entertainment audiovisual materials; and genealogy materials.
Interlibrary Loan items may not be renewed. A fine of $1.00 per day will be assessed to overdue interlibrary loan materials with the replacement cost of the item being the maximum limit. The lending library must be reimbursed by the borrower for any damage or loss of Interlibrary loan materials.
